About

Ryan Bailey California attorney and expert legal writer

Ryan Bailey has been a civil litigator in a wide variety of cases for firms in Northern California since 2017. Prior to that, he drafted over 200 judicial decisions and bench memoranda for several state trial judges as a judicial law clerk. They and other judges appreciate his direct and organized writing style. He currently manages and edits the Monterey County Bar Association’s digital quarterly magazine for attorneys.

At the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, he was a Lead Editor for the Journal of Public Law, and the president of the Energy, Environment, and Resources Society. As an intern, he researched legal issues and drafted documents for a law firm in Chile, the Monterey County Counsel, the U.S. Attorney’s White Collar Crime Division, and the Washington Attorney General’s Natural Resources Division. After law school he spent over a year as a Public Interest Fellow, doing legal research to help the Monterey County District Attorney’s civil litigation unit protect consumers and the environment.

After graduating summa cum laude from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State, he copy edited and wrote articles for a number of local newspapers.

Thus, he is proficient in the California Style Manual (for California state courts), Bluebook (for federal and most other courts), and Associated Press Stylebook (for other publications). He has never missed a deadline.

Ryan is married with two small children. He is a clean vehicle enthusiast and gourmet root beer connoisseur. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Star Wars universe. He has attended over 150 live concerts, and, during shelter-in-place, finally started trying to learn to play the guitar.
